Tool-using bovine
Forgot to mention something we saw yesterday alongside the path into the historic area of Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS, in Deer Lodge, MT. ... a tool-using longhorn! The fellow pictured had the tip of his right horn hooked over a dead branch, the end of which was up against his right side. He was deliberately tilting his head up and down to move the branch to scratch his hide! That's a lot more cause-and-effect behavior than I've ever seen in a bovine ... in effect, using a handy tool to scratch himself. tv
